Codd AI vs Snowflake Semantic Views
Snowflake Semantic Views are native Snowflake objects that store business metrics, dimensions and relationships so Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents, Snowflake Intelligence and BI tools can query data consistently. Codd AI is an AI-native contextual semantic layer that discovers business knowledge, generates the model and metrics for people to certify, and works across platforms. They are complementary: Codd AI can publish its certified metrics into Snowflake Semantic Views in one click, so you get Codd AI's context and Snowflake's native AI services together.

What is Snowflake Semantic Views?
Snowflake Semantic Views are schema-level objects that store business concepts directly in the database: logical tables, relationships, facts, dimensions and metrics, plus synonyms, sample values, verified queries and custom instructions that help AI interpret them.
They can be created with SQL, from YAML, through the Snowsight wizard or Semantic Studio, and with Semantic View Autopilot, which can start from existing YAML, Tableau or Power BI files.
Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents and Snowflake Intelligence use Semantic Views to answer natural-language questions, and they can also be queried with SQL. Access is governed with Snowflake's role-based access control.
Key differences
Building the semantic model
With Semantic Views, your team defines tables, relationships and metrics in Snowflake, with AI assistance from Autopilot. Codd AI goes a step earlier: it discovers the business knowledge itself, across data, BI assets, documents and experts, generates the ontology, data model and metrics, and has people certify them before they are published.
One platform vs many
Semantic Views describe data in Snowflake and serve Snowflake's AI services. Codd AI keeps one certified business context across Snowflake and other platforms, and serves it to BI tools, Slack, Teams, MCP clients and any LLM.
Better together
Because Codd AI can publish certified metrics into Snowflake Semantic Views in one click, you do not have to choose. Codd AI builds and governs the context, and Snowflake's Cortex services and partner tools consume it natively. Codd AI can also run inside Snowflake on Snowpark Container Services.
Which should you choose?
Choose Snowflake Semantic Views if
- All of your analytics data lives in Snowflake and your team is comfortable defining models there.
- You mainly want Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents or Snowflake Intelligence on a well-understood set of tables.
Choose Codd AI if
- You want AI to discover and generate the semantic layer, with people certifying it.
- Business knowledge lives in documents, BI reports and experts, not only in tables.
- You need one certified context across Snowflake, other platforms, BI tools and any LLM.
- You want Playbooks and Actions on top of trusted answers.
Using Codd AI with Snowflake Semantic Views
Codd AI generates and certifies the business context, then publishes metrics as Snowflake Semantic Views without manual mapping or SQL rewrites. Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents, Snowflake Intelligence and partner BI tools then use the same certified definitions as Codd AI's own conversational analytics.
Frequently asked questions
What are Snowflake Semantic Views?
Snowflake Semantic Views are native schema-level objects that store business metrics, dimensions, facts and relationships in Snowflake, so Cortex Analyst, Cortex Agents, Snowflake Intelligence and SQL clients interpret data consistently.
Does Codd AI work with Snowflake Semantic Views?
Yes. Codd AI can publish its certified metrics into Snowflake Semantic Views in one click, so Snowflake's AI services and partner tools use the same definitions as Codd AI.
Do I need Codd AI if I use Snowflake Semantic Views?
Semantic Views store and serve definitions inside Snowflake. Codd AI helps you discover and certify those definitions from your wider business knowledge, keeps them consistent across platforms and tools, and adds conversational analytics, Playbooks and Actions.
