Glossary
Business data product
Definition
A business data product is a curated, governed set of data built for a specific business purpose, with a clear owner, documented meaning and quality standards, so people and AI can use it with confidence.
What it means in practice
Data products apply product thinking to data: each one serves defined users, has an owner and is maintained over time. Business data products focus on the questions a domain such as finance or sales actually asks.
Paired with a contextual semantic layer, data products carry their business meaning with them, which makes them directly usable by BI tools and AI agents.
Example
A "Customer 360" data product combines account, usage, billing and support data with certified definitions of health score and churn risk.
