Conversational analytics

Definition

Conversational analytics lets people ask questions about data in plain language, by chat or voice, and receive answers, charts and explanations without writing queries or building dashboards.

What it means in practice

It removes the analyst queue for everyday questions and brings data to people who never open a BI tool. The hard part is not understanding the question but answering it correctly in business terms.

Without governed business context, conversational analytics produces fluent but inconsistent answers. With a contextual semantic layer underneath, answers follow certified definitions and can be explained.

Example

A sales leader types "Which regions are behind plan this quarter?" in Slack and gets a short answer, a chart, and a note on which plan figures were used.
